Default For my wonderful Mother-In-Law

My Mother-In-Law is now in a nursing home, suffering from vascular dementia. My husband and I visited her a couple of weeks ago. She is wheel-chair bound and she doesn't lift her head anymore, so my Father-In-Law put a cloth white napkin on her lap to putz with. I was thinking how boring it would be to look at a white cloth napkin all day, and my Father-In-Law said she will pick apart other things, like a Rosary. My quilting brain got to thinking about what I could do. I requested my husband's siblings to email pictures, and I made this little (18" square) quilt for her lap. I don't know if she recognizes who we are, but now she can see those who love her. I sent it in the mail yesterday, so I don't know yet how she responded.

That is so wonderful. If only all people in nursing homes and hospitals could have a quilt like that.

How sweet and what a lovely idea. I worked in a nursing home for three years in the activity department. I never saw anything so touching as your little lap quilt!

Make her a figit quilt also. A lap quilt with lots of little things to do, like zippers, fuzzy things, somewhat like a child's busy book. Use pinterest for ideas.

What a sweet, clever idea. I bet there are lots of folks that might be able to use this for someone they love. Thanks for sharing your genius with us.
