I like the fabric on the back too. Actually, it was the nicest to the touch.

I don't really know if the one I used would be appropriate for hand quilting or not. It was Sulky, cotton, 30wt. It was not one solid color, but rather shifted from light almost yellow to orange, then darker orange, almost brownish. Don't know if that makes sense or not.
