Default five yard quilt - red/black/cream

At last November's Houston Quilt Festival a friend and I picked up 3 sets of these 5 one-yard packs with the intention of making retirement quilts. We work at the same school and knew of two for-sure retirees and one "maybe". As it turned out we should have picked up 4, but ... the last one is a dear friend and we're doing hers in a different set of fabrics. Our school colors are red and white, but we thought these darker colors were more friendly. When you bought the 5 one-yard bundles you got a set of 4 patterns with them. We made each quilt from a different pattern. I'll get pics of hers when she'd done so you can see 3 quilts from the same fabrics, but different patterns.

The backing was 108" wide - love that! I quilted mine with fairly small diamonds - diagonals.

The first quilt pattern was called "Top Hat Tesselation". On this post the first picture is the top I'm doing from the same set of 5 yard patterns, but in another set of fabrics It's called Basket Weave. We hadn't counted on this dear friend being ... well... forced to retire. Then you see the bundle of fabrics we found at the Houston Quilt Festival. THe next two are my friend's two other quilts tops - same fabrics, but different patterns. We have about a week and a half to get these three sandwiched, quilted, and bound.

I like the way we did this - and hope we find similar bundles next year - and also hope that not this many people feel they need to leave our staff.
