I had a request for my OBW Dragon Octagon quilt from Kathryn. I'm glad to have converted a non-believer (non-octagon)! They are my favorites (sorry hexagon lovers!) I really love your work too, but I'm not going to become a convert. I love all the playing with all the pieces! So, that said, here is my "dragon" quilt and my first OBW and my PINK OBW (yes, it really is a OBW, just with two different fabrics .. okay, you probably call it something else, but I made it so it is still a OBW to me!) (oops ... only three photos so I'll do a new post for the pink and bull fighter quilt)

The octagon OBW or the OBW with the two fabrics?

Lovely. I like how you played with different size squares in the first one, and love the appliqued dragon.

How did you do the pink one? Would love to learn more about that.

The pink one really is just the regular octagon OBW ... I'll post a "how to" later ... I'm out the door for a girl day with my mom and sis! Thanks for the comments. Makes me blush!

Karen these are beautiful! I'm going to try an octagon, I don't think I'll ever totally leave the hexes but I should at least try one, right? I especially love the different size blocks in the dragon one. :-D :-D :-D

OK going back for another look!

Just studying the pink one and it lookes like the octagon OBW block set in a cathedral window - type setting? Am intrigued!

That's what I thought, too, before Karen said it's the normal layout.... so I looked again...

So I think it's normal pink octagons, alternating with octagons that have four pink and four b&w "petals" (sort of "striped" if that makes sense). And the little squares are b&w. So the b&w "oval"-looking shapes are really squares with long triangles on two sides. (Man, wouldn't this be easier just pointing a finger lol...)

Am I right? :D
