I have sewn for many years but never tried my hand at quilting. I've read these boards and watched many youtube.com tutorials and decided on this beginner block "continuous stairs" . Then I tried with a few scraps for the border. Should I hand quilt first as a beginner or machine quilt or does it matter ? :?:
I am already addicted and thinking about another quilt.

possible border. What do you think?

This is gorgeous! The proposed border is practically perfect for this top.
Definitely keep up the good work.
Can't wait to see what else you create!

I like the way your border looks. The black sort of frames the quilt and the zig zag adds interest to the quilt. Neat pattern and great job for a first quilt.
As for hand quilting. I did the same for my first quilts.
Question what will the quilt be used for? If you save your hand quilting for "forever" quilts and tie or machine quilt the ones that are more utility quilts.
I have enjoyed both worlds hand and machine.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the praise and I should have mentioned all the other quilts you see in my picture were hand cut and hand sewn quilts by my mother in law.
