I would quilt egg shapes in the border, thats the only suggestion I have. The quilt is adorable, love you colors. It made me giggle.

If outline/echo quilting, I just stop that line when I come to the border, no matter if it's the first or second line or the tenth. I wouldn't extend the quilting into the borders nor into the sashing.

If you don't want to do chicken wire, I'd just cross-hatch it. I love your quilt. You can't help but smile with that many funky chickens running loose!

What a fun quilt! Maybe you could quilt some random chickeny things, an egg, a chick, feather etc. I'd add some detail to the applique, not much maybe on the wings...what ever you choose, have fun with it!
