    Default Poppies in progress

I think the 1600 jelly roll quilts can be kind of boring if the fabrics aren't really interesting. But I had a black and white jelly roll I really wanted to do something with but I didn't want to spend tons of time on it. So this quilt is coming to life now. I did the 1600 jelly roll and left two strips out so it would be just a little smaller. Now I'm going to applique giant orange poppies on it. I just have the first poppy pinned to the top. I still need to iron the seams in the top and stay stitch the edges before I start the applique. It'll have three poppies and a couple of buds plus stems and leaves when it's done.

I don't usually like the 1600 quilts either but that's a smart idea to use it as a background!!!!!!!

I love this quilt! That makes a great background! You're so smart!

The other day I saw a nifty variation on the Jelly Roll Race quilt. That I remember... you pick a focus fabric (tho I think I'd use a solid that I might use again as a border) & sew a piece at the end of each strip before you sew the strips together. I can't remember what size the pieces were or if they were all similar or different sizes but I think you could do either one. It made a really neat quilt & I think I'd going to use this variation when I make my next JRR.

Here's what that JRR variation looks like (I'd saved pictures from whatever web site it was). I like it!

Love it. I made one of these with very dark colors even though it was christmas theme fabrics. I've thought of appliqueing large snowflakes on it to brighten it up. Your poppies and vines will be beautiful.
