It's such a nice surprise when you put things together randomly that you would never ordinarily combine and are surprised when they somehow magically work together. Thanks for the pictures and mini-tutorial!
Thank you soooo much, Twilliebee!! I too am partial to the Grab-A-Scrap and will be making another for sure! There's no hard thinking involved and it's a great opportunity to use up some of those 'questionable' fabrics that just don't cut it for other quilts! I even cut up a Victorian House from a Christmas print and put in there! So it's a great way to use the uglies up and the 'what do I do with this piece' and it looks great among the others! You're right -- it's amazing how magically they all work together!! I love the "mat and frame" method as I just can't stand crumb blocks and if I'm going to spend time with scraps, they're just going to have to look decent. There's nothing appealing to me about a crumb quilt. Besides that, a scrap quilt needs to be offset with the white mats as it gives the eye a much needed resting place from the mumbo-jumbo of the prints. Be sure and PM me when you post, twillibee, so I don't miss it. Thank you again for loving my work!!
:D     8-)

Wow just checked this topic again. Thanks so much for the lovely note and for gathering the links to your work in one place. I'm sure I'm not the only one who really appreciates it. I'll PM you when I'm brave enough and/or technically up to speed enough to post a picture.
{{{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}} and thanks again. You're very generous with your time and talent!

The talent of the women on this board blows me away.
You are so right, it gives the quilt unity and at the same time supports the "scrappy" concepts. As always great job, n2

I bow to you -- you are my new idol!!! The white matte, then frame -- genius idea. And it really brings everything together and makes order out of chaos. I gotta try it -- if only I can make myself grab without looking .... IT'S SO HARD NOT TO LOOK ! ! !

Oh, Nancy, you tickle me!!! haha. So glad you'll try my idea! I love making order out of chaos! Yes, you MUST try this! It's so relieving!!! Finally, I didn't have to worry about what went together -- I just mixed it all in....Xmas., uglies and all! If you really have a hard time with looking first and then grabbing, do yourself a favor and pull out all your favorite scraps and put them together where they'll be "pulled without looking" for a quilt with your brightest, scrappiest, and favorite fabs of all time!! You won't be disappointed then with the outcome!! Now....is that another brilliant idea or what??? Have fun with your new matted and framed scrappy!!!

:D    8-) .....oh, and I love that avatar!!! priceless!!!!
