My 11 year old grandson wanted a black & white quilt - since these are not my colors, I agreed if I could add some red to make it happy. Since I didn't want to spend a lot of time working with these lovely colors, I made up this block which went together quickly and found more of the sashing fabric on line to put it on the back.

This was definitely a labor of love, but then, he'll love it!

Nice job there. I find black and white very challenging to work with - getting the shading and such right is difficult. You pulled it off with perfection! Way to go...He'll love it!!

Really great job on this! Look on the bright side...it won't show the dirt as much as something brighter. With boys, that's a good thing!

I agree with Esqmommy about your fabric choices. You achieved a pleasing balance of pattern texture and contrast, which is so obvious in mostly black/white quilts. I'm sure Stephen will be very proud of his quilt.

You are so right! I have three sons, 1 daughter, five grandsons & 4 granddaughters. I swore that my boys when they were little would have a bath, go to bed and wake up the next morning dirty.

I picked up fabrics here and there whenever I went shopping - a few of the fabrics were bought while on a quilting retreat where I also started the quilt. I loved the sashing fabric but couldn't find it locally or where I had originally purchased it. I ended up locating it at a small fabric store in Kentucky that has a website. If you know the name of a fabric you can usually find it somewhere by using one of the on-line search engines. I buy the lion's share of my fabrics on-line. Tight budget.

I have to reread the rules on this site to see if I can give the location of where I've purchased something.

I made up the block, and it's so easy you could do it in your sleep. If you'd like the measurements, let me know.

Hey, you did a great job. If he doesn't like it I will take it. I actually have two tops of black, white and red pieced and have not gotten around to quilting them. Maybe this winter.

My son wanted a red & black quilt one year. He picked out a double wedding ring variation called Fade to black by John Flynn and it turned out pretty good. It was hard to sew on black though.
