This is my 4th quilt top but the 2nd quilt I've completed. My grandson's birthday is in May and he will be 2, so this will be his present. It was supposed to be for Christmas but I didn't quite make that deadline. His mother requested a sailboat quilt for him. They are beach lovers and currently live in Charleston where my SIL is stationed in the Navy. I went searching for something not too complicated and found a thread spool block using the sailboat. I didn't think a little boy would care for thread spools so I did some reconfiguring leaving off the spool part of the block and this is what I came up with.

The quilt is 73 x 54 and the first that I've used free motion quilting. I intended to use a wider meander but I did the first block tighter than I intended so I was either committed or had to rip it out! The back is a multicolor striped flannel. I thought that would soft for a precious little boy. I used Sulky varigated thread in primary colors for the quilting.

I hope you like it! I can't wait to give it to him

Really nice. Good job quilting. The backing will be so soft and snuggly.
