Well with some help from Kimbie I got the cutting layout for my newest project. It will be for DS and DDIL She redid their bedroom in black, White and Red with hearts.. It could take me years to cut this out anyone have any quick tips? I just cut out enough to try a block and I think once I get the hang of it I will be ok.

The plan

In Judy Martin's newest Log Cabin book, she recommends cutting on the lengthwise grain of fabric to prevent stretching. On small blocks, that might not make much of a difference, but I can see where it would help on larger ones.

You can stack your fabrics and cut four layers of strips at once. She also cuts each rectangle size at that time and puts them in silverware sorters. (Instead of piecing and trimming to size at a later time, if that makes sense). Someone here made a beautiful log cabin last summer and posted a picture of her sorted pieces, too.

Strip piecing is the way to go for log cabin quilts. It should go together quicker than you think!

I find that if I have a lot to cut, I just turn on the television. A couple of episodes of Law and Order help me to get something done without thinking about how much there is to do.

I have Quilt Wizard and just chose a log cabin square and changed out the colors. For some reason my program wouldn't print it out so Kimbie helped me out with the cutting directions and Yardage. She has EQ. I did find a wall hanging on line that was a heart log Cabin but couldn't find directions so thought what the heck let's just design it! I also think someone on the board did a similar one not to long ago.

Your off to a great start. I like the pattern. Your fabrics are great. Can't wait to see it done.

Strip piecing will make it go much quicker and of course, rotary cutting.

Eleanor Burns is one of the best at this.
