I made a placemat for Thanksgiving for a season look to use now and of course when my DD saw it she hinted for one. So of course I had to make one for her.
Then decided to make her a Christmas looking one to use for the month of December.
I made her with two different fabric so she can use either side.

This is the one I have on my table.

I just take the fabric measure the size I want, (mine our 19 x 13 1/2).
next measure and cut your batting the same size. I then put the batting down first, fabric right sides together go next, i pin all three layers together. Next start sewing about half way down one side and continue on around the layers. I stop just far enough so I can get my hand in to turn it right sides out. i will then press the mat and top stitch all the way around the whole mat. Then i go back and slip stitch the turn opening shut. That's the way I do it. i will also do some of my quilts the same way.

My Thanksgiving wall hanging i did the same way.

I made this by turning after I had quilted it
