I made this small lone star today and didn't want to do the dreaded "y" seams so I just appliqued the star to a piece of purple flower material. Found out what "tapered" stitches are on my sewing machine and figured out how to use it. My first time trying applique and the taper stitches. Very productive and learned some new stuff. I might make a pillow or a wallhanging - will figure it out tomorrow.

That is so pretty. What wonderful colors. I like the idea of appliqueing it to the backing.
