I'm using a heavy flannel sheet (almost a light blanket), tacked to the outer edge of the frame of french doors between my sewing room and the living room.

In the past, I've simply used the floor, but this is SO much better (plus I can leave it there) (PLUS the quilt inspectors don't come running through messing it all up!)

Yes, design walls are great...sure wish I had a place to have one up all the time, but like you, I have improvised with a flannel sheet in a temporary spot when working on a quilt (pinned over a cupboard in my sewing room)

I couldn't do without my design wall. Well, truthfully, I suppose I could do without lots of my toys, but they do make life easier and quilting so much fun, don't they. Someone in my guild told me about her mobile design board.....she used a trifold (science project) board covered with a light flannel sheet and pinned/glued tightly when the board is opened. She loves it. Maybe you could give that a try for something that is easily moved.

I'm with you............ love my design wall. Who would have thought a couple of flannel backed tablecloths could be so helpful with sewing. ;-)

I love mine. Even if it is purple. At fifty cents a yard could not pass it up. LOL
