Donna,
I recently got the same machine. Mine was made on May 15th, 1940. 15,000 were made. It is in a wooden cabinet that I am going to have to refinish. It came with a matching stool and all of the attachments. I have been doing a lot of research on the old singer machines (I now have four treadle machines that I am also refurbishing) and learned that "the 201 machines were introduced in 1936 and are regarded as the best machine that Singer ever designed." This is a quote from the treadle on site that I joined to find out more information about antique machines and for obtaining more information on how to refurbish them. It should make you feel better about your new baby. Congratulations again.

oh my , you have quite a wonderful collection. and yes knowing that the model 201 was one of the best, it does make me feel better. i know absolutely nothing about the old ones. but i'm learning. mine came in a wood cabinet also rather light blonde wood and stool to match, i've redone the stool already but that's it. i've got so many irons in the fire it's hard to believe. i'm old but i still work 4 days a week, kinda hard to make ends meet on social security alone. and thanks for the info.

That is the model of the machine. They are work horses. One of the best Singer made. I have 2 and they sew anything.
Great Buy

I love how the manual says it should be preserved for future use and for family use. Cute!

Love the machine, makes me want to play with some of the old ones I have sitting here.

So much fun, so little time. sigh...
