I so need to fix an area that's just mine ... I'm scattered everywhere :)

Great space by the way!

Rachel, Congrats on you beautiful sewing area. Love the quilts draped over the couch or chair.

You are right, I always warn my young moms that once the little ones can pull themselves up, low windows are a definite safety hazard. Putting screws in them is a great idea! I am sure your DH will do it when he realizes that it is a safety issue for his baby.

Enjoy your new area and thanks for sharing.

I am totally on board with the new sewing room. My husband and I are moving to a house (!!!) this week, from a 1 bedroom apartment, and I get a craft room! You can definately tell where my priorities are because its the only room in the new house that is completely unpacked and set up, and we haven't even "officially" moved yet! Now I jusst need to find an actual sewing table, and to make a design wall for my quilts. I'll see about posting pics after I get everything else moved in and have a chance to work in it to see if I like the arrangement.

Yours is beautiful by the way. I love the window as well, but I love the picture frames in the background which I'm guessing have infant pictures of 3 kids? It looks like quite the inspirational setting for creating.

My house is getting way too cluttered.

I see you found a cabinet for your 201!

As for the screens, you may have to do what my husband did after my cat pushed our brand new screens out and was lost for over a week while I was in the hospital. He put screws into the frames to hold them in place.

 :)
My 201 is actually sitting on the book shelf because it has not yet found a cabinet. The one in the cabinet is a 127 (I'm pretty sure that's what it is anyways, it has the Sphinx decals and the bobbin winder up high). I picked it up at a flea market today. I'm undecided as to whether or not I want to put in the work to clean it up and get it back to good working order. It works, just not well enough to sew at the moment. I really want a treadle but may just go ahead and resell this one and find one already in good working order. We'll see.

Good idea on the screens! Now if I can just get my husband out to do it. :)
I love your new sewing room!!! :D:D:D

Just check to see that the splines in the screens are firmly in place... little hands pushing on them can dislodge the screen fabric, especially if they are determined to get out  also, you may want to hang something up on the top window ledge to cut the screen in case of a fire....

Lovely sewing corner and no you are not a bad mother just need your own space and the kids do have their own space in their bedrooms where they need to keep themselves busy. They and you need time out and what better way for you to spend it so make them understand that that area is no go for them. hehehehe

Well do I remember the hazards of windows too close to the floor! When my #4 son was learning to walk we lived in really nice new base housing in Guam. The upstairs windows went almost to the floor & the screens were on the inside. My dear sweet #1,2 & 3 sons thought it would be oh, so clever to take a screen off. Not sure of the particlars as I was downstairs when it all started, but somehow or other #4 son ended up out on the ledge outside the window...too far for me to reach and pull him in...and concrete patio below...horror pictures running through my head...got to stay calm (yeah, right!)...got to entice the baby to come to momma...All turned out well and big brothers were in MEGA trouble! Just last year #3 son (who would have been only about 3 at the time) confessed to being the instigator..should have been no surprise there (just figured he would have been too young)...that has been his role for the past 30 years!
