I NEED HELP TO IDENTIFY HOW OLD THIS QUILT TOP IS PLEASE Appraisal on Page 3

$300 sounds pretty low to me also, unless it's stained or in bad shape. Personally, I would finish it by hand, simply because I would want to have it to show off and use. I, however, care more about the beauty and history of the quilt than what it is worth.

I need to go to more garage sales! And I found the pattern in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. It is #2812 and it has several names. The earliest being "Album" published in the Ohio Farmer 12/6/1894. It also was called "Puzzle" in McCall's circa 1930, "Five Crosses", "The Basket Weave Friendship Quilt" and the "Friendship Quilt" in the KC Star. I am loving this book! It is checked out of the library, so I might just have to track me down a copy.

If you are interested in the quilt top for it's value , I would be cautious about finishing it. I'm not sure if it applies w/quilts - but had an old piece of jewelry that was very delicate filligree and had a few broken gold pieces on it. I was told bby a jeweler not to let anyone fix it or it would lose its value as an antique. Just something to think about. If you take an 1850's quilt top and quilt it now - it doesn't really have the same uniqueness.

I won't be doing anything to it.
The appraiser instructed me in how to make sure it was finished in order to increase the value...but I am a beginning quilter with a brain injury. The quilt needs to go to someone that can do it justice. I was told that muslin and vintage cotton threads can be found on ebay to complete this; but it is way out of my realm of thinking. I couldn't bear to ruin it.
I am toying with the idea of listing it on ebay...
I have no contacts in the quilt world to sell it off that way.
Still pondering...
