Default PEACE Wall Hanging

In celebration of Peace week I thought it would be fun if my students made a wall hanging as a first project in my class. Usually they start with an apron but since they had already completed learning basic techniques, and could sew a straight line, I thought why not do something different. My girlfriend was visiting from Florida so we spent the weekend making kits, she was in charge of cutting out all the peace signs. This is the first one done and just too darn cute!

Very nice, love it when quilting is incorporated in the classroom.

That is great and the kids will love making that rather than aprons - super choice!

Actually, I thought they would think the aprons were pretty lame but they really like making them and the pattern I use incorporates about every basic technique they would ever need to know to do just about any other pattern they would choose in the future. My sample apron uses 3 different fabrics that compliment each other so they can see how it can be jazzed up, and I have embroidery machines in my classroom so they can add designs on their pockets if they want. And they don't have to make the apron for themselves, I've had kids make them for their siblings, boyfriends, girlfriends, moms, dads, grandparents, friends. Haven't had a complaint about the project yet.
