or so they said! i ended up at an estate sale near my house today. No quilting stuff, but did find a bag of what they called "silk". It was a grocery size bag full, so bought it for two dollars. Here's what I got and I don't think much of it is really silk. But they all are scraps and silky! It smells old and musty so going to wash and dry it. Will pink the edges first, as the board discussion on silk for quilts was VERY helpful! Thanks again to all you wise ladies (and men) out there!

The lot of "silk" I bought for $2 -- some are taffeta, all silky

You have quiet a collection. Good for you. You may have some taffeta, poly-silk, satins in your mix. Make sure you use a small size needle with a sharp point, like a 9-11.

Looks like fun! I use woven interfacing with some of my silky not really silk fabrics. It is very light weight.

I know that if you take a small strip of fabric and light a match to it, polyester will melt into a plastic lump. Cotton burns, but I'm not sure what real silk will do. At least you can tell if it is a man made fiber like poly, nylon, etc.
