new to applique, but not to sewing and quilting. When it says cut 1/4 " outside of the solid lines and there are dotted lines that denote overlapping all around the solid lines , how can you cut on the solid lines when the dotted lines are on the outside? I cut on the dotted lines but then the form of the applique is lost. Does this make any sense? This is the horse head pattern "Mistral".

Your quilt for your expected grandson is really cute. I like the puzzle front-lots of fun for him to play on. The idea of using a panel to start the back is clever-an idea to file for future consideration.
