What is MQX?

Re: Fabric Depot: It's my FAVORITE place to buy quilt fabrics other than a wholesale fabric store on Harry Hines Blvd which I frequent when I'm in Dallas. The Yard Sale room at Fabric Depot in back and out in the yard when the weather is nice are my favorite. I begin there and then look at the other fabrics on the main floor (that have been on sale for 35% off when I've been there). I went during the quilt show a few weekends ago and bought waaaaay too much fabric.
HI LUE,
Thanks so much!
Yes..Cheater fabric means I just used one piece of fabric...well I happened to put a border on this one piece of fabric ...so it's not pieced...it's just one cut of fabric with a border added.

MQX...is Machine quilters EXP...if you google it you will see all the best teachers in the industry are going to be there and many vendors...it's a show that travels across the country. Tons of inspiration.....tons of quilts.

Thanks so much!
Blessings

Well I am not really sure that it makes the quilt thicker by any significaly amount. What it does is shows the quilting dimension a bit more. I think the loft actually is the same if you use warm and natural. ...it just gives it a trapunto sort of a look without all the work.
IF you over quilt poly it flattens out....so that means it doesn't add any signifiacant amount of loft.....and usually when I use two layers of batting I am quilting heavier.

I hope that helps.

Hi Kirsten,
I have used two layers of batting several times...just not two layers of W&N.....usually a thin batting..adn then a poofy batting like poly or wool is what is used.....but it looks great. It works great. Two layers makes your quilt a little more stiff....but after you wash it....totally fine. Teh one on my bed has two layers of batting adn we have washed it several times. It's perfectly fine.

Your quilting is exquisite.

We have a place in NC called MaryJo's that carries quilt-shop-quality fabric at a discounted price. I was in awe the first time I went there. Then, about 4 years ago, I went to Oregon to meet some online quilting buddies. One took me to Fabric Depot. I think 4 MaryJo's would easily fit inside Fabric Depot.

I wanted some new samples for my booth ( next show is MQX....YAY!) .....as soon as I saw this at Fabric Depot in Portland..I knew what I could do with it.....I had a hard time choosing which color way I wanted.....in the end I chose this one. The creamy butter center was just perfect for showcase quilting.
I had never been to Fabric Depot before....WOW! It was a bit overwhelming....there was so much of EVERYTHING there. If you are ever in the Portland area you should stop by there.

I am trying to decide which color of binding to use...the charcoal black color to frame it all in...a pretty stripe? The same blue color as the border? HMMMM?

I used two layers of batting....legacy 80/20 and hobbs poly down.
I hope you all have a blessed day!

I wish I had more time for both piecing and quilting. I wish my quilting was as beautiful as yours. I introduced myself to you at Expo but didn't get much time to talk to you. I am going to try to get to MQX but no guarantees. I will be getting ready for Quilt Camp which is the same week-end. Jere

Your quilting is beautiful, as is your quilt top.
