Hello my name is Peggy; I too am interested in learning how to applique, how did you make your birds? I really like them! I am interested in making a sports quilt for my son with a Penguin on it; I have no idea where to start, how to make templates, etc...can you direct me how to begin?
thank you,

thank you,
It was my first try also. All I did was draw pictures of the birds on regular printer paper, using pictures in my bird books as guides. Then I just cut them apart for patterns. Body, wing, beak, face markings, etc. Then I traced them on the Heat and Bond Lite, fused them onto the fabric and then onto the white backing. Then I just stiched around the pieces to make them stand out. I enhanced the wings with black thread. I didn't have a pattern...just made it up as I went. I didn't really know what I was doing...just went for it, and it turned out really well! Good luck with the penguin!!
