LOOK what I finished this Weekend: "The Moon"

Well here goes another attempt to post a photo of my work in progress. I am making this for a guild challenge. I have used only my own hand-dyed fabrics. I made 75 fat quarter last week for this. The sun was completed 2 weeks ago. I did the moon yesterday. Now, I am checking out "The Machine Quilting Project" online to choose how to quilt each section. Wish me luck. It is due March 1st. It is about 45" square. The stack of fabric is some of what I started with.

It is just beautiful, and to dye all of those fabrics--wow. Truly a work of art.
I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it difficult to plan the day.

What did you use as dyes? Your colors seem so vivid that they look as if you used inks.

How different the fabric colors look when they are home dyed. They are beautiful and I love your concept of the moon. Beautiful work!

    Tanya,
I use Procion dyes. They are a cold water dye for dyeing cellulose (plant fibers - cotton, bamboo, linen). The amt of dye powder you use is based on the weight of the fabric and how intense of a hue you want, the "Depth of Shade." The sun was a Depth of Shade was 4% - which is nearly the max for all colors but black, and the moon fabrics were made with a combination of Turquoise/Yellow/Black/Red, put on in 2 dyebaths. I have toyed with the idea of making a tutorial. It is really quite easy to do.
    Thanks for the feedback.

Are these Procion Dyes fade resistant? When I have dyed fibers I have had a problem with them fading when laundered. This has been significant as I was using the fabric for clothing. It is a real pain to dye a brillant magenta and end up later with a dusty rose or something.

Gorgeous. I too love to dye my own fabric. I haven't bought any commercial fabric in ages.
