Was that a pattern or your own design?

I love the way the traditional SAS blocks frame the Japanese center, and I really like the stars that you incorporated into the SAS design, AND how they flow into the border.

There's something going on all over the quilt.
Oh, and the color palette, taken from the center, is DIVINE.

First I think I would SITD along some of the pieced blocks in undulating lines going in the same direction the cranes are flying in the center panel. It would kind of look like wind currents blowing across the top. After that....I don't know but your top is awesome.

Thanks for the inspiration! I have that panel and keep loving it and putting it away. Maybe when I have some time I will be pulling it out and doing something with it!

This became a UFO when I had to quick clean up my sewing room (which is also my spare bedroom) for a surprise overnight guest. I put it away so well that I couldn't find it back again for well over 9 months! By then I was busy with other projects.
