Reckless Raw Edge Appliqué
Got together with some friends and we each brought some large scale flower fabric. We cut out flowers with sharp scissors and each went home with a variety of flowers, birds, butterflies and a vase along with a piece of unbleached muslin. Flowers were pinned to muslin much in the way you arrange actual flowers and pinned. Simple straight stitches around the edges, leaving a little fabric on edges that will fluff and give dimension. Muslin in cut, leaving 1/4 inchoverlap. The whole thing is then sewn onto your background fabric sandwiched with batting and backing. Sew around edge so it is attached. Add butterflies, birds and finish with some free motion quilting on background. Square and bind. It was a two day project and was very satisfying to make.

This looks like it could be a fun guild project. Definitely something to try at home. I love the concept. I have a lot of florals with large print flowers that I could use for a project like this one. What side is your background fabric?

Sounds like a great project! Had a look around google, and found a link that looks like it gives most of the directions. https://www.quiltingcompany.com/reck...plique-quilts/
