Default Make it up as you go quilt

Made this lap quilt for my mom for Mother's Day, finished the top and showed her last night, so almost in time! Finished it today. Started out last week thinking of making her something pretty, colorful, bright to have for her lap in her recliner. Had the 4 dresden plates put together for a year or so in closet, started putting them on blocks, then just made it up as I went, had the hexi butterflies done also, have dozens of them in there! Anyway, was proud of myself for starting and finishing it in just a few days. I'm bad about just looking at all my fabric, blocks and things I've made, but not being able to decide and execute!

Great way to use those orphan blocks. I'm sure your mom treasures it!

It looks exactly as you planned it that way. All the blocks go well together - good job. An improv job is one of my favorites. You'll never find anything like that anywhere else!

I am a woman just like you. I frequently "wing it" when making quilts. They usually work out following a period of " I don't think it will work" but surprisingly they usually do. Yours is really lovely, just right for a special Mum. The colours a great, and I like the layout that you have used. Well done. Orphan blocks are of real value at times. Hope mum enjoys reclining under her special present.
