I figured I would share this photo since I came here to ask some questions for guidance in making this.

It's a quilt in memory of my dad who passed away last summer. This coming week would've been his 74th birthday. I have made a total of 4 so far...one for my mom and for each of my 3 brothers. I need to finish mine up this week.

The squares in the middle were all pieces from some of his shirts, pjs, etc. The denim around the edge all came from his jeans. It's backed with navy flannel.

These were the first quilts I have ever made. Really, there is nothing technically right with the pattern or design. But for intents and purposes, it came out perfect to me.

I meant to say thanks for the help I rec'd. It was on this board that I found out about using Land's End sheets for the backing. Someone here also suggested doing the denim around the edges to off the differences in weight with the different materials.

Thanks!

That is SO special. I made my avatar from my late husband's shirts and ties. I'm using more shirts to make quilts for my 2 daughters. I used some of his hankies to make the girls wallhangings of trains since he had been a train engineer. It's all for the memories.

That is a wonderful quilt. What a great way to remember dad. When you wrap up in that quilt it will be like a hug from him.
