In order to really get into quilting, it is almost essential to have a room to devote to your hobby. That way you can stop what you are doing, leave the room, close the door and come back anytime to pick up right where you left off. If you have to put everything away and clean up a common space like a dining room, you spend precious time getting stuff out and putting it away. Even if you can only put a folding table in the corner of a room and put up a room divider around it. It doesn't have to be cluttered to be very useable and a place where your art can be brought forth. I hope you will ease up on yourself and let your love of quilting bloom.

I love having everything put away and counters and surfaces clean, but my hubby takes any empty surface as an invitation for clutter. It is an ongoing battle at times. After 41 years I mostly have given up.

Very good idea to use that space for quilting. Love that its all neat. Mine....not so much-but would love something to put what I have into, plus a room just for me! :) Ahhh, I'm a dreamer!

Interesting subject. One of my favorite shows is Hoarders. It is scary how something like that can creep up on you...........so although I want all the new pretty fabric.........I can't have it all....there will always be pretty fabric. So good for you, your space is wonderful.

I wish whatever you have in you would move to me! Its so very hard to keep all the clutter under control and I long for a streamlined, minimalist work area.

It is like me having the "self-discipline to not smoke". Yikes. I can't even stand the smell of smoke... There really isn't any self-discipline involved as I've never even been tempted to smoke. I can't stand the smell or the thought of sticking those burning things in my mouth.

I think it is more a difference in temperament. Some people have a compulsion to neatness. For them, it might actually be a self-discipline thing to actually walk away from a mess and let it stand. They'd struggle with doing so and would probably remain restless until it was cleaned and straightened.

I did have more notions and some fabric I knew I would never use so I donated it to the middle school I work at (they have a quilting club). When I am working on a project, I do have the stuff spread out around the room. I just can put everything away easily if needed and I always know where everything is. I work better when I am organized. When there is a mess or even just too much stuff, I feel overwhelmed and I don't do much quilting. I love alot of the other rooms I have seen and the fabric collections. I just wanted to show how I have my space organized.

My work area will always be a bit messy..just have to have everything I need within reach. I really hate clutter in the rest of the house.

I love your quilting space and your organization! You would be a great professional organizer! I too, find it difficult to create, quilt in clutter...too distracting! Though I must admit I do have 1 cabinet of fabric of which I am able to close the doors when it is not in use. Ah...the little foibles of our secret selves!
