Ya'all are some mug rug makers!

I saw a way to make hot plate trivets at the International Quilt Show in Houston last year: just make a mug rug, but only close three sides. Slip a ceramic tile inside (you can buy them very inexpensively in many sizes at Home Depot or Lowe's) and it protects your table top, counter, etc.

They make quick, cute gifts, too.
