These were the quilts that were my Math lesson this week. We measured and cut and created the patterns. Finished products are measured again for area and perimeter.

The baby quilt is for our Silent Auction to benefit our school. We are trying to get Smartboards in all classrooms. We have about a quarter of the school done.

The second quilt is a Downey quilt. The kids had a great time measuring them and learning. I also read the book "The Patchwork Quilt" during reading time.

For the Silent Auction and my first attempt at freehand

They look great!!! What fantastic way to learn math.
I remember my DD#2 made a paper quilt in her math class in 4th or 5th grade. That was before I started quilting.

I also used quilting for my math kids. It is amazing how quickly these sp.needs kids learned to measure. They will always know what a 1/4 inch measurement looks like. Your group sure have shown their talents. GREAT JOB GANG!!!!!!!

Lovely concept...you must have the most fun math class ever. Hope you get your interactive board soon - I believe they are really good. My step-son's girlfriend is a teacher and her class has one...very useful teaching aide.
