I went to our local aution house Friday evening, and bid on 2 boxes of fabric and some qulted pcs. I won the bid and took both = I have several pictues to share, but being a newbie not sure how to handle the pieces that are completed. Most of the Blocks were sewn by hand, but they all have a bad odor to them. How is the best way to wash these first, so I can try to do something with them.

I will have several of these pictures, please let me know how best to protect but clean!

Thanks
Milene

I'm jealous of your find. Like so many have said on here if I find quilt pieces or blocks, etc. they are either too expensive for me to be able to purchase or they are falling apart. These are really nice.
I would probably wash the blocks by hand and either dry them on low in the dryer or on the line outside. You probably need to be pretty careful with them since they're old.

You found a treasure. I love to get boxes, then go home & sort
through them. First, I would spread them out & air them.
Then see. I would be afraid to wash them, but maybe in a
mesh bag, gentle cycle, cold water. Better get an expert's
advise instead of mine. But that is what I would do.
I really like the green ones.

I took some of these to the LQS I have been taking begginer sewing lessons from and she did say they were very old. I am excited to try something, but a little scared also. I know a lot of love and hard work went into these and I want to make sure they get to be finished but I hope right! I know "No quilt Police" But since I've never completed a piece that's where the "right" comes from!

I bought them for $15.00 a box, couldn't pass it up for that price - I wasn't going to stay but then I saw the boxes hiding under the table!
