You are exactly right. 8 layers of fabric, and I have the ruler to cut them all the same size and then I figured out that I wanted the side pieces to make the star "float" so I cut them bigger than would normally be cut. I have issues with getting this block to come out right, and not cutting off the tip of the stars when I square them up. This is the second quilt that I have done in the past 12 months, and so I am getting better at the Y seams and really don't mind them. Hope that this helps you. Thanks for the comment
