My ex-husband’s wife has ALS. They arrive from California tomorrow to see the DGKs. I wanted to embroider a cause ribbon for my daughter to show that she is supporting the ALS cause. This morning, I showed her the stitchout and asked her what form she wanted the finished product to be. She came up with the terrific idea to make it like a luggage tag so she can switch it to whatever bag/jacket she’s wearing at the time. I finished it off with Velcro and discovered that it did not hold very firmly. I didn’t want it lost, so I changed the closure to a button with an elastic. I couldn’t remove the Velcro as it was sewn before the other stitching, so it will have to remain. I’m not sure what was happening with my emb machine to make the crooked line, but it is what it is at this point.

My husband has ALS also that is how I got into quilting something to detract from life that I could stop and go on.
Any awareness of it is good so many do not know more than the name.

Love it. I lost my best friend in 1998 to ALS. His only son was only a year old when his daddy passed. I do my best to answer his questions about the man I knew. I've got an ALS ribbon tattoo

What a great idea to show support of finding a cure for ALS.
Knitnnan-yes it is the same horrible illness.

the worst i can imagine about it is that the mind is not affected. your thoughts go on as normal. it's the body that gradually works less and less. it must be so frustrating to want to move a particular muscle and the body does not react.
