I also have a Janome Gem and Pfaff CV. I use them for different jobs too. I also have mum's 1970s Singer which has been serviced but I haven't used it yet.

I have a 1425 from 1982. My daughter has it now but when she goes to France to teach in the fall it has to come to Momma! Loved that machine! Does yours have the drop in bobbins that are bigger on the top than on the bottom? Mine wound the bobbin in the case and I loved that! I thought my Janome was a step backwards with that! AND the feed system was just perfect! Rubber instead of teeth. Love that machine. Let them laugh!

Does anyone else see what I am seeing? The light is exactly where I wouold want it to be. It is where you can see the edge of your fabric and would make sewing 1/4 inch seam so much easier.

I have some machines from the 90's but I sure would love to have this one. Older is Better.

It looked like an Athena 2000 which I bought in the 70's and hated it never ran right. It was sent back to the factory 3 times for a new mother board every time I got it back and started sewing, all it would do was hum. I finally sent it back to the factory and told them they could keep it. After that, I never bought another electronic machine from Singer again. Glad you don't have a problem with yours.

I'm so glad you posted this. I felt foolish taking my Singer Inspiration to quilting class when everyone else had something fancy and computerized. When I received the machine as a gift for xmas, I was thrilled. I hadn't touched a sewing machine in 20yrs and I thought this one had all the bells and whistles until I saw everyone elses babies. But.....I keep going back to my first impression when I tried her out which was "oh I love this!" Maybe someday I'll get something which has more choices for stitches and embroidery but I've got a feeling for the actual "workhorse" I'll keep using my "Sally Singer".

There is nothing wrong with loving a "less than high end" machine! My fanciest machine is a Janome 8077...and I love her to pieces! (William bought her for me last year for my birthday) Since then, I've filled the house with vintage machines...and truth be known, I use them more than I use the Janome!
