I went to a garage sale this weekend and found this slant needle 404 Singer sewing machine in the table with all the attachments(seam guide, zipper foot, hemmer foot, multi-slotted binder, ruffler, gathering foot and button hole foot). It also had threads, needles and bobbins. I could not believe it when the lady said she wanted $25.00 for it. I asked if it worked and she said yes. Needless to say I jumped on it. It was very clean. I brought it home and tried it out and it works great!!! Does anyone out there have one of these machines? Why do the call it slant needle? Any info would be great. I priced them on ebay and some are going as high as $300.00.

That is a great buy! It is called a slant needle because the needle actually slants towards the front. Look at it from the side and you will see. This makes a big difference for presser feet and attachments- they must be slant shank attachments/feet or they will not fit. I have the slant needle 301(an early relative of yours) and I love it

I have this same machine and same cabinet. I paid $ 35 for her at an auction a few years back. I love to sew on mine. Happy sewing.
