Yes there is batting behind the color fabric it is cut just the same size as the color fabric and the petals are just a single layer just turn them over ant applique them down around the rounded edge. It is kind of like turning the pie dough over to keep the juice in. The petal piece is all one piece, just like the pattern picture. You can adjust the size by using a protractor In the center of your hexagon. I hope this helps. I always make a practice piece to see if I am doing it right and if I like the block before I cut any more.

Make a template of the center hexagon and one of the petal piece. Then I cut them out I leave one scant 1/4" around the petal only for your turn under on the petals.

Very beautiful quilt! I am crazy for hexigon's. Two more question's if I may. After each individual hex is completed, do you whip stitch them together the same as you would english paper pieced? Also, you said the hex's were 6 inches. Is that 6 inches per side or from point to point? I am never sure how hex's are measured........I can see how the size could be easly adjusted.
Again, beautiful quilt. I'm sure it will be a blue winner!

Thank you, Phyllis

Just stunning!!!!! I saw this pattern at the Ozark folk center and was given a pattern page just like you showed us...there were no instructions except to say "made like Cathedral window" Vague but I will try to figure it out. Your quilt deserves Best in Show!! congrats!!!
