It is amazing what some people find they don't want!
I had a friend whose mother worked in a nursing home and she collected about four quilts from families that did not want them after the loved one had passed away. They told her if she did not want them they would be 'thrown' to goodwill. How sad!
I had an idea about the mending you have to do. What I thought would be to stitch it closed and then maybe applique something over it. Depending I guess on where it is. But you could applique in a couple spots so it looks intentional.
Just me two cents worth!

A piece of light weight fusible underneath the tear before you mend to keep the edges from puckering :D

Very pretty!

It's a shame after all the love that went into making that, that is was given away. But lucky for you!

Great for you!! My heart would be broken to know that a quilt I made went to the Salvation Army or Goodwill, but if someone who loves and appreciates it picks it up for a decent price...then it's all good. I love shopping at my local Goodwill stores, there are 3 here that are close enough for me to visit every week...I DON'T visit them every week...but I'd like too!! lol

What a great find. It's unbelievable what people do with such wonderful peices of work.

If only they knew how much work goes into quilt.

What a wonderful find!!!! I, too, would be heartbroken if a quilt of mine ever ended up at the Salvation Army or Goodwill or any of those...

I know you will take really good care of this one :D
