All of these fabrics (except for the orangy/hot pink) were from a group of fabric samples that I got at a garage sale last year. They are all from the same fabric line so the colors and designs are relatively coordinated. But I have only one piece of fabric about 9 X 12 inches of each kind.

I am generally not fond of a "scrappy quilt" look, but for me this one works because the fabrics are coordinated.

They're great, and I love the secondary pattern you get without a sash.

What wonderful blocks. I love all the colors. I would use sashing between them. That's going to be a wonderful quilt.

I think that you need to decide what you like best. Perhaps audition the blocks with some fabric that you would use for sashing and see if you like it. Either way it would look nice. Depends on whether you like it to look busy or more sedate, I think. Happy deciding!

Now a question for you - Because of the busy-ness of these prints, would you put a sashing between each block? I wasn't planning to until I see the blocks grouped together like this and I think that a sashing would better define each block. I am afraid that they would all run together if there were no sashing between them.

What do you think?

I would definately put sashing between the blocks so each block stands out.

Great blocks. I would add sashing.

I see two kinds of blocks: one kind is made with TWO busy prints; the other is made with a tone-on-tone. I would make more of the second kind; less of the first kind. Your Sashing accomplishes two goals: sashing enlarges your quilt. Sashing tames your colors and design. A black or deep tone can make your colors "POP" even brighter. Take some yardage of various kinds, and lay your blocks on it while you work. Your own best instincts will decide the outcome. Is if for a specific person? Or purpose? That should influence your decisions.

sashing for sure. Those are great colors and will make up beautifully.

I was torn in this spot once myself, so I made a small collage in the middle, unsashed and framed it with the other blocks that I did sash. I got that scrappy jumbled look in the middle but at the same time was able to show off the individual blocks around the outside.

its great btw
