Name this quilt AND need tips for quilting as this will be made without batting

Also, do you have a wavy stitch on your machine? I have a Bernina and it's the #4 stitch (longer and wider)? That also brings a lot of life to a simple quilt design, plus it's still done with the walking foot following the same path as the pciture.
My FMQ skills are non-existant, so if I'm doing it myself, it's my only option.
I've got half a spool right here - and looking at your quilt it seems that it would work well with your quilt. The colors are so subtle that it doesn't have to be an exact match. They'll just blend/meld in.

Wow, that is pretty! No, I don't have a wavy stitch for my machine...it's just a very basic machine...just does button holes and zig zag stitches. I did get a darning foot though and I think this may be the time to get some scraps together and practice FMQ. Mary doesn't start school for a while so I have time to practice my quilting skills. But I can't delay too long...DGBaby #2 is on the way and I need to save time to make one for her/him.

So right click and copy the pic posted on QB, paste to paint, edit then copy & paste back onto the QB?
I have a MAC so will check hubby's window pc. I remember paint from many years ago.

1) Of course it is ... it's personal!!!
My only thought would be, should it be "A Flower" or "Flowers"? (you mentioned your top variation is to make it look like flowers, and hte basket looks like it has several flowers in it)
2) The flannelette will act as your batting. Remember you're not going to have a puffy quilt! Spray or hand baste the back to the front and do your quilting. MTS's suggested pattern flows nicely with your pattern.
3) Spray baste the flower block to white cotton and then stitch it together as one, as you make your quilt back. Once your quilting is done, nothing will move. And the extra piece of cotton won't add any thickness to worry about.
4) You might consider whether you want it hand stitched onto the quilt or sewn into the backing as you are doing your flower block. If you have someone that could machine embroider your message, I'd consider going that route ... it'll be long lasting and durable. And under the conditions, you never know how it will be washed.
How special that you have cared for this young lady and want to give her something special to acknowledge her achievements! :)
