deciding what other square to put with this one in an alternating pattern. the one in the plans is a snowball square but i did one and it just looks too plain. i want to do something a bit fancier but not too difficult because i'm still a beginner. any suggestions on what would go with this block well? i want it to be nice because it's for my brothers wedding.

lonesome squares

I thinkn the snow ball would be excellent for an alternate block.

I like the snowball idea, too. Are you going to use the turquoise background with the snowball, too, or something lighter, to separate the blocks a little bit?

i was going to use the fabric from the small corner squares on this block for the centers of the snowballs and the fabrics from the big squares on these blocks for the edges, i divided my fabrics into two piles of 6 when i cut them so that no matter how i arranged it there could not be two of the same pattern touching each other, if that makes sense to you all.
so if you guys think the snowballs won't be too plain i will go with them. i already have them cut. maybe i will try doing a nine patch first.
btw, the yellow in the top right square that looks out of place is cut from a blanket i kept from him when he was a baby. (: i wonder if he will recognize it.
still open to suggestions

Try the snowball and see if it doesn't create a secondary pattern you haven't noticed yet.

the snowball block may seem plain to you now, but it gives you wonderful space for quilting and does not have to remain (plain). maybe mark a quilting pattern in the center of your snowball block and put it back into place and take another look :)

well, it's later and this is how the two squares look together. i went ahead and used what i had cut. not sure how much i like it but hey, it's not for me and i knew it would't be my style when i chose the fabrics. this is about 2/3 of the blocks, i didn't have room for the rest in here.

what do you think? is it ok?
