Mizrach means east - this will hang on the eastern-facing wall in my sukkah (temporary hut) for a Jewish holiday this fall.

Can you tell us more about the quilt? It's very pretty, but I would like to understand it better. :)

Edit: I just asked a friend here at work who is Jewish and he said it might represent the tree of life. Is that right?

The tree has pomegranates hanging from the branches; full of seeds, they are a symbol of new life for the coming new year (the Jewish calendar begins again in the fall). A sukkah is a temporary structure, where one traditionally eats meals for a 7 day holiday, and can be decorated to make it festive. Each year, I try to add a quilted wallhanging to our sukkah. The 4 items under the sun are hebrew letters, spelling out the Hebrew word for east - mizrach. It is put on the eastern wall of a house, to show the direction of prayer - east toward Jerusalem. (Of course, that is for us in the Western Hemisphere - it could be different depending on where you live in the world!) This is my humble version of one - there are amazing ones by artists - painted, needlework, metal, anything!

I love the reasoning behind the quilt and now understand it much better. You really put a lot of thought into this and it's beautiful.
