This is the photo I am basing my quilt on. Sorry if it appears pixelated. The original photo looks great, this is just a scan of the card.

My daughter had some real pretty scrolly thingys on the top and side. Inside she had a strip down the left side with individual pics and then a message on the right. The back of the card had a Bible verse. Sorry my pic doesn't do her card justice. Hopefully my quilt will!

What a wonderful photo. I can't wait to see how your quilt turns out. Now, which Christmas will this be finished???? I don't think I'd live long enough to finish something like that.

That photo just makes me smile. You know, it has such a natural, happy look to it - unposed. It's the kind of "feel" I always want to capture with my pictures, but usually can't.

Can you explain what you are going to be doing a little more? Sounds intriguing.

I will do the children and couch fairly realistic applique. I am taking liberties with the clothing etc (which horrified my daughter, she spent so much thought and time to coordinate everything for the photo shoot. But, I want everything in blue/green/purple tones).

I will put 3D pillows behind them, and the quilting of the couch will follow the seam lines. The kids also will be holding, wearing, etc, things which represent their interests. For example, Damon (the little one) will be holding a car, a ballerina Barbie will be tucked under the leg of the youngest girl, Emelia (far left) becuase she likes to dance.

The couch will float on a cloud, instead of sitting in the grass as it really is. (Did I mention my daughter bought that couch just for these photos? She really goes all out for her photo sessions, everyone always is so excited after becuase she and her hubby are so fun to work with, and the results are fantastic). Anyway, back to topic.

Above the children are dream bubbles, each child (except for Damon, the 3 year old who doesn't like to draw) has drawn what they want to be when they grow up. Still debating about what to do with Damon's dream bubble.

The borders will be a couple of different style wonky stars on the sides and the corners will be log cabin blocks (because the kids know this block, and that a red or yellow center indicates safe home).

An artist friend is making letter buttons for the title. The C is about an inch and a half, and the H is about 2 1/2". They will be a mix of bright colors. Below is a pic of the what the letter buttons will be like. The font is called Jokerman.

The answers to the questions will be a mix of different styles, colors, sizes of alphabet beads. The kids have already helped me sort them all into snack bags, one letter per bag.

The background of the center will be a dark blue/black starry night fabric.

I will probably have the kids help me with the sewing of the wonky stars (becuase they will be all silly looking anyway, and cut to size after sewing) and bead attaching (the odler ones can sew, and the younger ones hand me beads, this will be a great way for the younger ones to learn their letters a little better). They all (except for Damon - yet) love to sew. The last project we did together (it still is a WIP) was a Show Way quilt.

I won't worry that the quilt may not be show award winning quality if the kids help, I just want it to be fun, and a special memory of and with my grandkids.

It is the first quilt I have made for ME!

What a wonderful Grandma you are!! So patient! I have 6 under 10 yrs old and I do alot with them and have with the older ones when they were this age. I know! what it takes to work with kids and it is so great to see you enjoying your grandkids and sharing your love of creating! Sounds like your daughter learned( and inherited) her creativeness from a wonderful mom!
I spent alot of time with both sets of grandparents and I put alot of emphasis on creating good memories for my grandkids to have like I have of my grandparents. My grandma use to play Sorry with me when I stayed and I learned to garden with her and my Grandpa so it is so important to pass down to the next generations!!

Look forward to seeing your progress! It sounds like an ambitious project! I'm sure you will have so much fun with those kids making it!
