They are embroidery in a variegated pearl cotton. The designs were from a coloring book on seashells.

I also love the colors and the embroidery, especially since you made the shells your own from a coloring book! The colors on the back are also stupendous. And, like you, I think that QV's pattern would make a wonderful border!
