Default Please help us decide on a border

My Mom (vivnme) just finished this quilt and needs help deciding on the border. The quilt is a gift for her 26 year old neice.

She needs about 20 inches of border and she doesn't have the color that is around each block. She has a rope border shown in one of the photos below, it would be made with all the fabrics leftover from the quilt. I have shown the border with the thin strips that I like but I think she would prefer one with the thicker strips. We don't know what colors or sizes to use.

What should she do?

I would first put a thin dark strip, then the wider strips with the braid in between. Beautiful quilt by the way. I love it!

I wouldn't begin to give advice, but I have to say what a stunning quilt it is. Gorgeous, gorgeous fabrics, and glorious stars!!

it needs the darker stuff on the outer edge to sort of stop the eye from falling into the light stuff and getting stuck....vvery lovely quilt already!

I agree. I like the dark ones best.

IMHO: I would first make the braid - then add one of the creams to both sides of it. Then I would audition the remaining pieces to see what to use as the "first" go round (which goes on prior to the cream/braid/cream section). I would also make the binding with the same piece that went on the "first" go round. (In the meantime - I would scrounge around to find something close to the color of the sashings - because that's what it's really asking for.) But that's just my humble opinion... HAGD!

It sure is a beauty, I'd go with the darker borders.
