These two quilts were made from Fabric Sample Books found on the "FREE TABLE" at my quilt guild meeting a few months back. Someone at the table said "What would you do with that????" And I can't resist a challenge.

The first thing I had to do was remove them from the books --and actually hubby did that! What strong and long staples they used!

Then I soaked the material in water to remove most of the paper (but not all the glue!) from the back of the samples. Then they went in the washer (2 different loads --one red!) and dryer. Then ironed and cut to a somewhat uniform size.

The "Red, Red...Fine" Quilt is made from tapestry material, some with a very thick texture. It did not quilt real well so I just stuck with SID.

The other quilt I call "Take Me Out" is made from canvas material and really would be great to use in the car, at a ballpark, picnic....
I did large meander quilting on this one. Thanks for looking.

Wonderful use of samples. I once got a hold of a chintz sample book and used it with my 4-Hers (back in the day). They had more fun cutting those up and piecing stuff for the recycle category of sewing for the fair.:)

Think if you kept going with making a 'quilt' with these....you could cover a chair or sofa in patchwork!!
There was a post about just that yesterday; the samples on the website were amazing!

U did a great job. When I get fabric from the 'free table' @ our guild meeting, I usually cut it in strips for Vet quilts. It is a great feeling knowing someone can use what someone else doesn't want anymore or will be unable to use themselves.
