I am making 3 Log Cabin quilts for my boys using only antique cotton fabrics. This is my first block and I'm psyched!!! :D
I'm going to make them different patterns by the placement of the blocks, one of the many things I like about Log Cabin. Chain piecing can be a problem b/c of the sizes and shapes of the fabrics I'm working with. I'm also concerned I won't have enough for all 192 blocks.. If anyone has any cottons ca.1860-1920 or so and would like to sell them pleeeeeze pm me! They need to be strong enough, as you can imagine- this is not an easy find! But it's fun finding them!
Thanks!!!

Check out Judy Martin's Log Cabin book, she show a gazillion ways of setting them together. Very informative. I was lucky enough to get to go to one of her trunk shows last weekend at Threads of Time fabric store in Danville Il. She was hilarious.

Gorgeous block! Good luck in finding enough "old" fabric to be able to make all your blocks! You may have to change to reproductions. It'll be very nice when completed and I can't wait to see more pics.

If those fabrics could tell stories....oh, the things that they have seen.

Beautiful work!

sueisallaboutquilts 05-15-2010 08:11 AM

Hey everybody! Thanks for the nice comments. No pms yet but I'm not surprised. These fabrics are hard to come by. Last night while I watched the game I sorted and realized I have more than I thought. I have to play with each fabric to make sure it will be strong enough. I thought about what one of you wrote about repros- if I have to go that route I may put all the antique blocks in the center and then do something, rather than mix them up. I really don't want to mix the fabrics in the blocks. I'm trying to be a purist with these 3 quilts :D
Thanks a lot for looking and commenting!!
