10 Minute Block PROGRESS! = )

2 Attachment(s)
I've been working on this off and on the past two days and am so excited to see it coming together! I love how quickly this went! I wasn't too sure of how it would look with the sashing and cornerstones but am very happy I went in that direction now.

I still need to do two more seams on the second half of the top to finish joining the sashing and block rows, then to sandwich and quilt each half using my regular machine, and then join the two halves across the center. The finished quilt will be queen size. The blocks currently measure 60" across and I will put a 2" floral border completely around the blocks to match the sashing. I think I'll get about 8" of drop on either side and the foot by then adding a 2" dark blue border, then a 2" yellow border that will match the cornerstones, then four to six inch dark blue and then the binding. I'd like to get a little more drop, so may get inventive and see what happens...maybe next week. lol

The photos show it on a king size bed. (with a queen size headboard...we loved the headboard and couldn't part with it til we find one we like as much or better! lol)

Thanks for looking!

Oh my gosh ! I just made my daughter a king size quilt using those same colors and your blue and yellow flowers are exactly the same fabric as my daughter's quilt. I made hers with Eleanor Burns 'Love Knot'. It turned out really big and pretty nice. Your is lovely too.

I like your ideas for this quilt. The sashing with cornerstones really give the 10 minute block a new fresh look.

I love making this block too. Once you get the hang of it, it does go quickly. I should quit looking at pics of quilts and start sewing on my projects. Anyone else have this issue?

Diane007 06-28-2012 06:04 AM

I like your lay out

Happy Linda 06-28-2012 06:21 AM

Very nice 10 minute top. I like how the corners almost form a circle. You've given me an idea! I think I will try putting 4 of the blocks together without the sashing to see what the secondary pattern might look like.

humbird 06-28-2012 07:48 AM

I haven't really cared for the 10 min. block, but must say, you may have changed my mind. Yours is so nice. Maybe I will have to try it after all. I also like your color choices. Blue and yellow are so good together. How do you plan to quilt it?

nativetexan 06-28-2012 08:16 AM

Oh now that is pretty. love the fabrics too!

Lioness3xs 06-28-2012 08:22 AM

I like how you added the sashing and made it so much more. Beautiful color combination

humbird, I'm not quite sure what I'll do for the quilting, but thinking about stitching the quarter circles from the point outward, center and one on each side of center stitching, then maybe echo stitching for much of the rest. I think I'll make a test block and play with it a bit first.

alfosa421 06-28-2012 03:18 PM

Ya know it's amazing-those 10 minute blocks look like you were making circles or drunkard's path blocks until you really focus on them Its a very pretty quilt

Pretty! Love the colors!

I've been wanting to try that. Great results!!!

LynnVT 06-30-2012 05:14 PM

Oh, yes, Julie. Here I am browsing the board while the binding is not sewing itself to the quilt my friend quilted for me and dropped off today.
Helen, love your colors and enjoy reading of your process. The way you put things together is the way I work, too. Love experimenting and deciding sashing, borders, etc. as I go along.

It really does change it up, doesn't it? I love everything about this... the fabrics/colors, the pattern, your arrangement, the whole shootin' match! Kudos!
