You have not indicated for whom this quilt is intended. Are you selling it? if you KNOW for whom it will be used, ask the recipient if they like tied quilts. Otherwise, stitch in the ditch is always acceptable.

Birthing is putting the right sides together and stitching almost all the way around. Then with the little space that is left, at least 6 inches I'm told you reach in and flip it right side out and sew the opening closed. There is no binding a quilt this way.
I couldn't find a tutorial with pictures, but this is what I used. Next time I do this, I take pics and put it in the tutorial section http://www.sewaquilt.com/birthing-a-quilt.html |

Thanks But I think the general consensus is to birth it and tie it, but I might SID because of the little knots and fingers getting stuck in it. Didn't think of that, thanks!! Back to the question at hand-- SITD then can't you bind on the fleece or how about the store bought wide binding- 'silky' kind. My daughter loved the feel of that--can see her now sucking her thumb with the 'slippery' between her fingers. Can't wait to hear what you decide. Have you had 10 answers yet?? |
I like tying it. What is Birthing? to a quilt?
|
Birth it and stitch in the ditch , very pretty
|
What does it mean to "birth it"?
I think tying would look very nice. |
I hadn't heard of "birthing" either- wouln't it be hard to keep the edges flat?
I'd bind it with some other fabric that you have about the place, and meander a bit on it for teh quilting. |
