This is The Garden Block from quilter's cache. I searched a long time for a pattern that I felt would work with my batiks. This one won. The pattern called for three different fabrics, so I scrapped it up by making the 3rd fabric the scraps (rectangles). The other two are my two favorites out of the bunch. I think it'll look fine. I'll see how four look for wall hangings...and if things are going well I'll try a lap quilt.

That 1/4" seam was really fighting against me today. :? Sigh...oh the frustration.

I had planned to do the pineapple log cabin with these fabrics, but changed my mind this week.

Here's the square, which is really 2 sets of two squares. I added photos of those.

I call it tranquility. Lower case for effect.

Janstar 05-17-2008 06:51 PM

Batiks are so pretty and you did a great job picking out the right pattern for them. Be sure and show us the finished project.

Harmony 05-17-2008 07:15 PM

I like! and "tranquility" with no cap is perfect--tranquility should not shout at you with all those pushy capital letters!

amma 05-17-2008 07:53 PM

Luscious batiks :D I like your blocks, the name, can't wait to see your quilt :D :D :D

This is going to be a stunner Karla, I just looooooovveeeee batiks, as you have so much choice within one piece of fabric due to the colour variations....yummy :D :D

mary705 05-18-2008 01:56 AM

Very nice, all of it, block, fabric and name. A winner for you.

barnbum 05-18-2008 03:25 AM

Aww--thanks for your kind words everyone. Such warm fuzzies for the morning. :D I hope to get two more done today. My daughter says it reminds her of seaweed or algae, but she's a Bio/Chem major, so I think that was okay.

live2teach 05-18-2008 05:02 AM

Very pretty! I can't wait to see the quilt.

sandpat 05-18-2008 05:07 AM

Karla, that is really going to be a pretty quilt. I haven't used many batiks either but I sure like the use of yours!

barnbum 05-18-2008 07:05 AM

sandpat--I love batiks! But, I had to get over trying to find the best side. And the back look as good as the front--well except for all those seams.

MissTreated 05-18-2008 07:43 AM

Very, very nice! I'm partial to batiks myself. I don't do well with other fabrics. For some reason batiks really inspire me, and really connect to my creative side.

barnbum 05-18-2008 03:03 PM

There's a wrong side????

Shadow Dancer 05-18-2008 03:47 PM

I like batiks...have a bunch of them, but no clue what pattern to use them with. :?

Shadow....I can't wait for you to get your package so we can see YOUR creations!

barnbum 05-18-2008 05:47 PM

Terri--it took me a long while to decide on a pattern. Keep looking. You'll know when you see it.

Well, I've had them sitting here for a couple years now, so what's a few more years of looking lol

Overlander 01-03-2009 04:02 PM

Very nice. I love the batiks. :P

sewhappy57 01-03-2009 04:07 PM

I love all batiks! Love your blocks Karla, nice pattern!

sandpat 01-03-2009 04:22 PM

Ohhh, it looks very pretty. I haven't used very many batiks either, but your choice block looks great with them!

Yvonne 01-03-2009 04:33 PM

It's going to be a beautiful quilt. Just look at those sharp points. WOW!

My first introduction to batiks was not nice. My pins wouldn't go through the fabric. Little did I know it wasn't the fabric but my old, dull pins! Bought some new fine, sharp pins and now I really like batiks. Uh-oh! I was probably better off before!

pocoellie 01-03-2009 06:03 PM

That's going to be very pretty.

SulaBug 01-03-2009 06:15 PM

I just love batiks also. I have a small stash started, but not sure yet what I want to do with them. I will be anxious to see your progress.

barnbum 01-03-2009 06:48 PM

Oh goodness--how'd this get popped up from months ago?? :D This ended up being a wall hanging or table topper--it's not sandwiched yet because it's one I wanted to keep, and all the craft sale stuff had to be done first.... hopefully soon! I'm deep into a CW top now....

sewnsewer2 01-03-2009 08:09 PM

Looking good!

Jim's Gem 01-03-2009 08:29 PM

Looks beautiful Karla. Looking forward to seeing it whenever you get it finished

sandpat 01-04-2009 05:15 AM

Nothing like an older post popping up to lay a little guilt on for that UFO huh Karla...

barnbum 01-04-2009 05:56 AM

Well-another reason I haven't finished it is because I have an idea how I want to quilt it--but I needed to practice on all the small craft sale stuff. I keep drawing the plan with a pencil--and I'm not sold on my ability to do it. There's a second option I want to try--but I'm not sure that will look good. I do have the thread picked out--and the batting and back ready... does that count?

I have four tops--all small--do finish and my UFOs are done. Rachel wants one for her new apartment at college.. so I'll have to put the CW aside to get that one done.

Sigh---back to school tomorrow....

sandpat 01-04-2009 06:00 AM

Sometimes I do need to lay one aside for awhile so I can think about it. I know, it sounds like an excuse..but really..when I do that, for some reason things take shape in my head and I figure out what I need to do next. Well, thats my excuse..and I think its pretty good

Bevanger 01-04-2009 06:00 AM

pretty

gigi2landon 01-04-2009 06:10 AM

Sounds like the quilt police have been investigating you.......LOL

 Just tell 'em it's your story and you're sticking to it.

Besides it's beautiful and the quilting will truly make the hanging!
