Looks like it needs a belt. Billy told me that one can be made from a 6' leather boot lace. Cut it to fit then hand sew it together with heavy thread or cord. I've bought the lace but haven't made a new one yet for my own or for my friend's.

You paid a fair price for the machine and I love the cabinet! That and the fact that you have the accessories to go with it maes it that much better.

So, I didn't get ripped off?

grammyp 12-06-2010 06:11 AM

I don't know about the machine, but the cabinet is well worth that. New Home is a good machine, my grandmother had one (not a treadle). I think you got a great deal, she is beautiful.

smhardison 12-06-2010 06:12 AM

If I wanted to restore this machine, is there anywhere I could get details of the art work on the machine.

smhardison 12-06-2010 06:16 AM

What's a treadle? I really don't know anything about sewing or sewing machines. I just like old antiques. When I paid 75.00 for it I wasn't sure if I got a deal or got ripped off.

The treadle is the power source of the machine, the cast iron stand it is sitting on. If you bought it for the an investment then dont expect a huge return. Sewing machines are one of the worst investments to make. Their value is going up but very slowly. Now antique autos is a whole 'nuther ball game!

The reason to own an antique or vintage sewing machine is because you enjoy using them or you like the memories it brings.

Yea, I really wasn't planning on trying to resale it. Just wanted to know if you thought I paid to much for it. Was the original art work on these machines hand painted or were they decals. If they where decals can they be purchased anywhere.

Thank
Sam

Lostn51 12-06-2010 05:02 PM

they were decals and as far as I know they do not reproduce them for the machines.

smhardison 12-06-2010 05:27 PM

thanks for you reply Billy. Do you now of any web sites that may show detail of what original decals might have looked like. I have a good friend who is a great artist who said he would hand paint it on the machine if I could come up with some picture of what the original decals looked like.

The NeedleBar.org would be my first choice, then ISMACS, but you can always try the Smithsonian.
